LSU QB Zach Mettenberger
A new report out of Fox Sports is that more than ten players failed drug tests at the combine. The combine in essence is a job interview. There are representatives for thirty two NFL teams there watching every player. It does not matter if a team has a particular need at the position any given player plays, they are being watched for a multitude of reasons. One reason is that they could be drafted by that team if they fall to them, are needed for depth, or the team is looking to secretly replace a starter. Teams also watch these players just in case a team in their division is looking to draft that player.
With that being said, it is disappointing to see players who are being coached to succeed at the combine failing at one of the most simple tasks, passing a drug test. It shows that these players either have a serious problem with drugs or they have poor decision making skills. Either way, these failed drug tests are huge red flags for the general managers looking at these players. That being said, I know that some of the players mentioned were on the Detroit Lions radar. I would bet Martin Mayhew will be making some decisions based on this report. Below are the names I was able to locate who failed drug tests at the combine.
LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger
Florida State defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan
LSU defensive tackle Anthony Johnson
Miami offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson
Florida State linebacker Telvin Smith
Florida State linebacker Christian Jones
I will continue to update this list as more names become made public.
