Today the Detroit Lions are hosting Champ Bailey for a workout. Bailey, a former all pro corner who played for Washington, Denver, and New Orleans, was released during roster cuts by the Saints. He is likely not going to be signed as the Lions have been kicking the tires on a few defensive backs in the past two days. They are likely looking for depth and not an immediate upgrade at the top three spots. Given Rashean Mathis‘ age and Bill Bentley’s health issues the past few years, it is a smart move for them.
Yesterday they worked out Tommie Campbell, Roc Carmichael, Chris Clemons, Anthony Walters. Clemons was thought to be their choice at safety this offseason before they signed James Ihedigbo. They likely wanted to see what he can do in case there are further injuries to the safeties. While a signing is not eminent, expect more workouts in the coming days, especially at defensive back.
