Detroit Lions Week One Game Status Injury Report

The Detroit Lions released their game day injury report today.  This report basically just tells fans what to expect as far as who plays and who does not.  This injury report is not set in stone, nor is it something to be taken lightly.  Below are the game statuses of each of the players listed on the injury report.

SS James Ihedigbo (knee / neck) – Doubtful

DT Caraun Reid (shoulder) – Probable

S Don Carey (hamstring) – Out

As seen on the injury report released by the team, the Detroit Lions are expected to be without Don Carey, who is the primary backup safety.  They are also listing their biggest defensive offseason acquisition and starting strong safety James Ihedigbo as doubtful.  If Ihedigbo is indeed out for the Monday night game, given Don Carey is already ruled out, that would leave safety Isa Abdul-Quddus as the starting safety opposite of Glover Quin.  For a secondary that was already weak, especially at the safety position, relying on the number three safety as a starter is not the best move for the team.  The positive though is that when he played in preseason, Abdul-Quddus played well.  He also has starting experience.  If the Detroit Lions injury report is indeed accurate, this could make for a very interesting game.
