The Detroit Lions announced last night that they have waived injured center Darren Keyton and released tight end David Ausberry. Both players are hurt, which is why the move was not a surprise. Keyton was originally announced as a designation to injured reserve, but was later corrected. The team waived him so he could have a chance with another team, should one be patient with his recovery time. If he clears waivers, he will be placed on injured reserve with the Detroit Lions. By waiving him, the team is giving him a chance to play still this season. If he goes on injured reserve, his season is done.
Ausberry has been battling minor injuries since signing with the team. According to Detroit Free Press writer Dave Birkett, the Lions likely released him with an injury settlement. Ausberry is not a critical player and with the return of Fauria, he is no longer needed. Given that the team now has two open roster spots, I would expect to see two new additions real soon.
