The Detroit Lions announced through team reporter Tim Twentyman that former seventh round pick TE Michael Williams has moved to tackle. This was a move that Charlie Sanders predicted last year when he was drafted as he was a blocking tight end with poor hands. That speculation furthered when the Lions announced that Joseph Fauria would have a larger role, and the team drafted Eric Ebron in the first round.
The former Alabama tight end Michael Williams will now wear number 73 after switching positions. It is expected that he will have a better shot to make the roster as a tackle due to the Detroit Lions currently lacking depth at the position. It was also made known that Williams is now listed as being six foot six and weighing 270 pounds. While that is still light for a tackle, he is not expected to be in position to play this season. He is currently still a development prospect.
