Detroit Lions Sign Patrick Edwards Cut Derrick Hopkins From PS
|
The Detroit Lions have released defensive tackle Derrick Hopkins from their practice squad. He was replaced by wide receiver Patrick Edwards. Edwards, who has been with the Lions for a few years both on the practice squad and the active roster, was let go during this year’s roster cuts prior to the season. His addition to the practice squad is a bit confusing considering that the Lions already have Andrew Peacock on the practice squad. With Calvin Johnson being out last week, Ryan Broyles, the team’s number 5 receiver was active but only played two snaps while being healthy. If they were playing quite a bit of 4 and 5 receiver sets, it would make sense that the team would add an additional receiver, but considering they do mostly 2 and 3 receiver sets, I do not understand the need to add an additional receiver. Still though, adding a familiar face at that position puts them in good position should injuries occur and they need to promote someone.
