The Detroit Lions have signed defensive end Phillip Hunt. While Hunt is not a known commodity around the NFL, he does have some experience in the league. Hunt has spent some time playing with the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, and Indianapolis Colts. He also played in the CFL where he once registered 16 sacks in a season. Having been undrafted out of Houston, the 29 year old pass rusher is better suited for a 3-4 linebacker role than he is a 4-3 defensive end given that he is only 6’0 248lbs. But then again, so is Daryl Tapp and he did well for the Lions last season.
Hunt is likely just going to be a camp guy. While he could make the team and produce like Tapp and George Johnson did, it is more likely that he is just going to give the coaching staff another body to work with in practice.
