The Detroit Lions finally filled the last spot on their active roster by signing defensive back Nate Ness. The move was more of a formality after head coach Jim Caldwell alluded to the fact that the guys on the practice squad were better suited for the team than any of the guys they had worked out. Ness was the favorite of the two on the practice squad due to his ability to play corner and safety and the fact that James Ihedigbo is still out. Ness also performed well in the preseason recording two interceptions. With that production and versatility, he likely would have been the 6th corner had the team chosen to keep 6 at the roster cut deadline. Either way, he is on the active roster now.
