The Detroit Lions finally filled their open roster spot today after working out three defensive backs. Today they agreed to add corner RJ Stanford to their 90 man roster. Stanford spent time with the Miami Dolphins last season. While he is not expected to be much more than training camp depth, he could make a push to stick on if Nevin Lawson‘s injury keeps him out for the first 6 weeks of the season. With the depth they have at corner right now though, it is unlikely. They have starters Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay returning. They added Josh Wilson in free agency and drafted Alex Carter and Quandre Diggs. Assuming all five of them make the roster, there would simply be no room for anyone else. The only way I could see the team keeping six corners is if they do not place Lawson on the PUP list.
RJ Stanford is 5’10 187lbs. He is a 27 year old former 7th round pick out of Utah. He spent his first season with Carolina before moving on to Miami where he spent the last 3 seasons. He has 2 career interceptions, one of which coming last season.
