The Detroit Lions have added another former Jacksonville Jaguar to their roster. Last night, shortly before the signing of kicker Matt Prater, they signed corner Mike Harris to the practice squad. This signing is to fill the spot vacated when they released Josh Victorian yesterday. Harris, 25, is an average sized corner at 5’10 and 185 pounds. He does not fit the mold of the bigger corners that have worked out recently. Harris got a decent amount of playing time with the Jaguars in 2013 and 2012, most of which was with the practice squad.
Mike Harris was a 6th round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012. He was one of the slower corners in the combine running a 4.68 forty yard dash. Harris is a man coverage corner which fits perfectly with Teryl Austin’s scheme. He also primarily covered the slot receiver at Florida State in college which will help with the Lions needs. While he is just a practice squad player for now, it is always possible that he gets moved up in the event of a serious injury to another Detroit Lion corner.
