Detroit Lions Release Safety Jerome Couplin

The Detroit Lions needed to make room on their roster after having their only healthy tight end, Brandon Pettigrew, get banged up in the game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.  Today they released safety Jerome Couplin.  While the move is not entirely surprising given the health of the safety position, it is disappointing given that he’s a young guy who could develop into a quality safety.  While there are no open spots on the practice squad for him as of now, it is likely that he will get re-added to the active roster once the need for tight ends decreases provided he is still available at that time.
