For the second time in his short NFL career, the Detroit Lions have released running back Rasheed Williams. Williams was originally released after rookie camp following the draft so that he could finish school. The Lions brought in Dez Martin from Wayne State to take his place with the running backs. Williams was re-signed after classes finished and made it through OTAs and the first day of minicamp before again being released.
There is speculation that the release is related to the health of the Detroit Lions tackles. LaAdrian Waddle is still recovering from his injuries last season and Cornelius Lucas somehow injured himself and will be out throughout minicamp. The Lions still have Michael Williams and Corey Robinson at the position, but the team is likely to add another tackle for camp. Releasing Williams gives the team one open roster spot to do so with.
