The Detroit Lions made room for offensive lineman Darren Keyton today by releasing Jerrell Harris from the practice squad. There was quite a bit of speculation that the Lions would promote Rodney Austin to the active roster due to the injuries on the offensive line. That may still happen later in the week but for now, Harris had to be released so that Keyton can get up to speed as quickly as possible.
In a bit of unrelated news, the Buffalo Bills waived Jerome Couplin today. If he clears waivers, he too could be added to the practice squad. It is possible that this move today was made with the forward thinking that if Couplin clears waivers, he would be added to the practice squad and Austin would be promoted. Either way, Keyton’s signing is official and Harris’ release is as well.
