The Detroit Lions announced today that they have released corner Bill Bentley. Bentley was drafted in the third round in 2012 and was the Lions primary nickel corner when healthy. Unfortunately for Bentley, he was never healthy. In each of his three seasons he suffered a major injury that delayed both his development and his ability to make an impact. With the Lions drafting Nevin Lawson last year, drafting Quandre Diggs and signing Josh Wilson this year. Diggs has impressed coaches so far during camp and with Bentley still sidelined from a torn ACL last season, his likelihood of making the roster was very low. The Lions decided to cut him now instead of waiting so that he has a shot at landing elsewhere in the offseason.
