The Detroit Lions filled their open roster spot this morning by re-signing offensive lineman Garrett Reynolds. Reynolds, if you recall, was with the team all throughout camp and preseason but was let go in the final round of roster cuts. The Detroit Lions actually kept less linemen than most expected during cuts. Many thought Reynolds would make the team, or at very least was a bubble player. The team confirmed that today by bringing him back.
The roster spot for Reynolds was created when the team placed injured corner Bill Bentley on the injured reserve list last night. Some felt like this was opening the door for the team to add a corner, like Champ Bailey. The reality of the situation though is that both right tackles are hurt and the Lions need someone who can step in just in case one of the two is not ready for this week’s game. Add to that the fact that Don Carey, when he returns, plays both safety and corner, leaving less need to replace Bentley.
