Today, the Detroit Lions announced what we have all expected. They have placed second round pick Kyle Van Noy on short term injured reserve. When news came out that he had surgery for a core muscle injury (hernia), it was expected he would need about 6 weeks to recover. That was roughly the amount of time he would be out if he was placed on the short term IR list. That could not be done until today at the earliest and it was just made official.
Van Noy is able to start practicing during week 6 and the team will have to activate him or place him on long term IR during week 8. Due to the emergence of linebacker Tahir Whitehead, Van Noy’s absence should not be a complete disaster for the Detroit Lions new defense.
