The Detroit Lions were active yesterday and their list of moves is outlined below. They made several transactions and one of which is very surprising.
The Detroit Lions placed Brandon Pettigrew on injured reserve. This move was expected when it was reported he is out with a torn ACL. The corresponding move here was signing tight end Bear Pascoe. Pascoe is a blocking tight end who should fill Pettigrew’s role well.
The Detroit Lions sign Kendall James. Kendall James is a young corner the Lions added to their practice squad yesterday. They let go of Stanley Jean-Baptiste as a result of the move. The team took a long look at Baptiste and likely did not see him fitting in long term. Signing James allows them to evaluate him for the rest of the season.
The Detroit Lions waive LaAdrian Waddle. This move was a bit of a shocker. Waddle was a starter at one point this season and has started multiple games over the last two seasons. He recently lost his starting job to Michael Ola, but to be released outright instead of kept for depth is a surprise. The Lions claimed center Gabe Ikard to fill the roster spot. That move was also a bit surprising. Travis Swanson is the current starter, and Manny Ramirez is the backup, and arguably the better player at center. Adding a third center did not make much sense unless Ramirez was going to be forced to play guard due to an injury. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see the outcome of these moves.
