Detroit Lions Fire Lombardi And Two Offensive Assistants

The Detroit Lions have officially fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and two offensive assistants.  Sources confirmed that offensive line coach Jeremiah Washburn and Terry Heffernan were also let go.  The moves were anticipated eventually given how poor the offense, especially the offensive line, has played this season.  They were a bit of a surprise for today given that just four hours ago coach Jim Caldwell stressed that no changes were going to be made.

Lombardi will be replaced by quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter.  The offensive line will now be coached by Ron Prince.  Prince’s tight end position will be filled by Devin Fitzsimmons.  The Lions are also making Curtis Modkins, the current running backs coach, the run game coordinator.
