The Detroit Lions have announced that their game of chicken with defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is over. The Lions have declined the option to franchise tag Suh, which would have paid him 27 million for this season. By declining to tag the superstar defensive tackle, they have effectively lost their bargaining power with Suh. He will now likely become a free agent and look for the best deal he can on the open market.
The Lions can still re-sign him up until the free agency start time, and also have the possibility of re-signing him once he fields offers from other teams if he prefers to stay in Detroit. It is likely though, that by declining the option to tag him, that Suh will not be returning to Detroit.
