The Detroit Lions claimed former third round pick Khyri Thornton. Thornton, the defensive tackle out of Southern Mississippi played for both Green Bay and New England during his short career. He is only 25, and has never played in a regular season NFL game. In Green Bay he was used as a defensive end and in New England, running a 3-4 defense, he did not really fit their rotation. Thornton comes to a team desperate for solid defensive tackles, and once he acclimates to Detroit’s playbook, he could become a contributor. Thornton, to me, seems like a guy who was never played in a position of strength and because of that could not stick on a roster. In Detroit, he will play his natural defensive tackle spot.
