The Detroit Lions started allowing rookies to show up for camp on Tuesday. With the veterans returning Sunday, they have began doing some housekeeping work by designating players for training camp PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list. The three on the list were not surprises, although one of them gave reason for pause.
TJ Jones and Ziggy Ansah were dealing with shoulder issues and were expected to be on the PUP list to start training camp. Golden Tate, however, was a bit of a surprise. He stated that he landed on his shoulder wrong in minicamp, but that he was 100% he would be ready for training camp. I suppose that the Lions are holding him out more as a precaution than anything else, but nevertheless, it gives you pause to see the prize free agent on the sidelines with an injury this early on. While all three are expected to be healthy for pre-season (barring an injury in training camp) we will continue to watch these situations to make sure they do not get worse.
