The Detroit Lions signed former sixth round pick Tyrus Thompson to their practice squad in an attempt to evaluate all possible offensive line talent currently available. Their corresponding move was to release running back Marion Grice. Thompson, an offensive tackle out of Oklahoma, was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 6th round. He spent some time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and is now with the Lions.
The move was likely made due to Sheldon White wanting to get a closer look at some of the players he liked in the draft but did not have an opportunity to pick up for one reason or another. Given the team’s 1-7 record, evaluating players is really all the Lions have at this point.
