The Detroit Lions added three players via free agency in the past few days. First, they signed running back Stevan Ridley, who was most recently with the New York Jets but was rafted by New England. He is expected to compete for a spot similar to what former Lion Joique Bell had here. Ridley is 27 and is coming off a ACL injury from two seasons ago. The Lions are hoping to get the player he was in New England and not the player he was last season. He was signed to a 1 year deal.
The Lions also added reserve tight end Matthew Mulligan and rotational defensive end Wallace Gilberry. Mulligan spent time with many teams over his career and was most recently with Buffalo. He is mostly a blocking tight end, which was expected with the Lions having Eric Ebron and Tim Wright already as pass catching tight ends. Gilberry is expected to be the teams 3rd defensive end at this point. He spent last season in that role with Cincinnati playing mostly on third down. Both players were undrafted and both players are 31 years old.
