2017 Detroit Lions First Round Pick Linebacker Jarrad Davis

With their first round pick in the 2017 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions selected Jarrad Davis, linebacker from Florida.  Davis was one of the best linebackers in the draft this year.  Ideally, the Lions would have taken Haasan Reddick, but he was taken earlier than the Lions.  Reuben Foster was also on the board for the Lions, but the off-field issues were a major concern.  Media types have compared Davis’ playing attitude like that of Ray Lewis in that he is passionate, a leader, and very aggressive.  The Lions loved his character, his versatility, and his size.  It is not often that you get a college linebacker with NFL linebacker size.  In addition he learned to play both middle and weak-side linebacker for the Gators, and Bob Quinn said he will be in the mix for all linebacker spots to see where he fits best.

Overall Jarrad Davis was the right pick for the Lions.  I would not have been disappointed with Reuben Foster either, although I had concerns about him.  Detroit desperately needed a linebacker, and they got a good one in Davis.  Stay tuned for the second and third round picks coming tonight.
